With summer on it's way, many of you will be heading out on vacation or have other activities planned. We understand that many of you will be away from the dojo and hope that you have a wonderful time. Please note, however, that it is in every student’s best interest to only take the time off of training that is absolutely necessary. Gichin Funakoshi the founder of Shotokan Karate and the father of modern karate said:
“Karate is like a pot of boiling water. Once removed from the fire it cools quickly.” If you can slot in a week or two of classes between vacations and activities it is much better than simply taking the entire summer off. Here are a few tips on how to keep motivated this summer:
1. Get to Class. Training once a week, or showing up for class a handful of times over the summer is better than not coming at all. It will also reinforce in your mind that you are a Karate Student. 2. Practice. Run through your katas regularly. You don’t need a teacher, partner or even your uniform to do this. Practice on the beach, in your backyard, at the park or anywhere else you can muster up a bit of space. 3. Pack your uniform. Take your uniform on holiday so you can participate in our Summer Photo contest. This will keep karate at the forefront of your mind. Wishing you a great summer. Northern Karate Markham
